The pesticides burned into the air make the clouds these weird shades of orange – I’ve never seen anything like it.
Woke up in this city
where clouds are different colors
And teachers board up the shutters so
Students can’t see the flooding of
Flames outside the window
The snakes running for cover
This playground is an oven
It’s covered in the Orwellian
*They told us that snakes and other animals run into the school when they burn the fields. Snakes wrapped around poles and stuff.
Two billionaire brothers
Got profits deep in my governor’s pockets
And couldn’t stop at just blind eye sockets
Turned by my government
We subsidize this suffering
Darker than black ash black
students are covered in
Make no mistake they own this town
Run this world
Burn it down
Make no mistake they run this town
Make no mistake they own this town
Run this world
Burn it down
Make no mistake they own this town
Left with no choices
Pellets of poison
Her soil’s her fortune
*This is the cringey
motto of Belle Glade
– what about “her” people?
Her soul is exploited
That’s why we voted for Nikki Fried
Who had us believin’
She’d use her position as commissioner
To make ’em stop
Burnin’ the tops of the crops
And switch to green harvestin’
The problem was as soon as she took office
She promptly forgot those promises she made
When she had this whole community vote for her
And now she’s running for governor
The PR team they told us to say what’s up
The legal team made all of it Pro-forma
The marketing team filled everything up with syrup
So we don’t have to tell you to eat this and shut the f$$$ up
There is no peace of mind
You belong in my system where being poor is a crime
Capital is your prison you puppet
Your price to me isn’t nothing
I bought your question your karma your conscious your come up
Your politics all of it to me is just economics
I can afford to keep you lost in my environment
No I’m not startin’ to green harvest
My profits are peak
Promise we went straight from slavery
To enslaving the free market
Make no mistake we own this town
Run this world
Burn it down
Make no mistake we run this town
Pesticides in the gutter
and red tide in the waters
*The prison shown in the video is a Jim Crowe era prison built primarily for immigrants who were brought to the area to work the sugar fields.
*Red tide is caused by excess nitrogen making its way into the water and causing huge algae growths which suck up all the oxygen and kill all of the fish. Huge deposits of runoff water from sugar production run into Lake Okeechobee which used to get filtered by the Everglades.
Now, the path of that water has been rerouted out to Florida’s east and west coasts where it adds nitrate load and amplifies the effects of red tide
Make no mistake we own this town
Run this world
Burn it down
Make no mistake we run this town
When we spend our lives we pay their price
We watched them rape South Florida til she bled red tide
While they drain out every drop until the well runs dry
And fill up every inch of soil in some pesticides
And crush these immigrants under their boot heel hide
And smother Rosenwald with dark black skies on the horizon
All the while we subsidize them
Oh the irony
Own both sides
They’re not society
Make no mistake they own this town
Run this world
Burn it down
Make no mistake they own this town
(Pesticides in the gutter and red tide in the waters)
Make no mistake they own this town
Run this world
Burn it down
Make no mistake they run this town
*Sugar is highly subsidized even though it contributes no nutritional value to society
